The Real Callback List

Again, great job to everyone who auditioned. In order to help the directors continue to clarify roles, we'd like the following actors to come back tomorrow to perform selections from the script. We'll schedule for our callback session to go from 3:00 - 5:00 in the choir room, but I'd like to ideally finish before then. Thanks so much to everyone for your time and commitment!

About Sherlock Holmes

Back in 1899, Sir Conan Doyle, the author of the Sherlock Holmes stories, teamed up with the actor William Gillette to create a four-act play putting the famous detective on stage for the first time. The play drew material from the Sherlock Holmes stories "A Scandal in Bohemia," "The Final Problem," and "A Study in Scarlet," and told a story that pits Sherlock against his arch enemy Professor Moriarty. This show had an initial run of 256 performances and later enjoyed numerous Broadway revivals, including one which earned two Tony Awards.

In 1977, playwright Tim Kelly freely adapted this script, closely following the same story, but updating it, tightening it into two acts, and adding a few additional roles. The story takes place back in late 1800's London, starting with a focus on two crooks -- Jim and Madge Larrabee -- who plan on stealing old love letters from a young woman, Alice Faulkner, and using them to blackmail the Prince of Bohemia who is about to get married. After being discovered and threatened by Sherlock Holmes, they seek the help of Professor Moriarty -- an evil genius and mastermind of crime. Moriarty and his crew create a trap for Holmes, eventually capturing him and Alice in a warehouse and leaving them with a ticking time bomb. After they escape, Holmes and his friend Watson cunningly capture Moriarty. As the play closes, Holmes addresses Alice Faulkner's blooming attraction to him and then he and Watson get caught up in their next case -- the Hounds of Baskerville.
